About Penshurst (Vic.)
Penshurst is a town in the Southern Grampians Shire of western Victoria, at the foot of Mount Rouse, an extinct volcano known to local Aboriginal people as Collorrer. The town grew beside an ever-flowing spring at the base of the volcano, and the surrounding stony rises supplied stone for the dry-stone walls and farm buildings that still dot the district. Mount Rouse is part of the Newer Volcanic Province, one of the largest volcanic plains on Earth.
