About Moyston
Moyston is a historic town at the foot of the Grampians in western Victoria, in the Rural City of Ararat. Proclaimed by the AFL in 1998 as the birthplace of Australian football, it is where Tom Wills, who helped codify the game, grew up in the 1840s; a monument to Wills stands beside the recreation reserve. The town began with an 1857 gold rush that at its peak drew thousands of diggers to the field, and it is now surrounded by farming country.
