About Maroona
Maroona is a rural village in western Victoria, about 229 kilometres west of Melbourne and 20 kilometres south of Ararat. It sits at the junction of the Western standard gauge railway line and the Portland line, which was built as broad gauge in 1877 and converted to standard gauge in 1995. The Maroona railway station opened in 1877, and although the village's grain handling facility has since closed, the site remains a working railway junction.
