About Nurcoung

Nurcoung is a rural locality in the North West region of Victoria, located about 41 kilometres from Horsham in the Shire of West Wimmera. Situated in the semi-arid western Wimmera about 12 miles northwest of the distinctive volcanic monolith of Mount Arapiles, a popular rock-climbing destination, the area supports broadacre farming and grazing with wheat, barley, and sheep production. Nurcoung State School opened on 11 September 1886 to serve children of selectors on Spring Hill Station, and the name derives from an Aboriginal word.
