About Tonimbuk
Tonimbuk is a locality in hilly Gippsland country in the Shire of Cardinia, about 70 km south-east of Melbourne and 10 km north of Bunyip, adjoining the Bunyip State Park. Its name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning burn or scorch. Settled under a village settlement scheme in the 1890s, the district later relied on sawmilling and orchards, and today is used mainly for cattle grazing and horse breeding.
