About Avonsleigh

Avonsleigh is a town in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne, in the Shire of Cardinia. Previously known as East Emerald, it was renamed in 1911 after Avonsleigh House, a guesthouse built by John and Anna Wright at the corner of Emerald-Macclesfield and Emerald roads. Emerald's first school stood on what is now Avon Road in Avonsleigh.
