About Wantirna

Wantirna is a residential suburb of Melbourne, 24 km east of the central business district in the City of Knox, between the Dandenong Creek and the Dandenong Ranges. The name comes from a Woi Wurrung expression said to mean a gurgling stream, and the district was first settled in the 1840s as the Bushy Park cattle run before orchards took over. Wantirna residents strongly backed the creation of Knox shire in 1963, and the suburb developed rapidly afterwards.
