About Greenvale (Vic.)
Greenvale is a suburb about 20 km north of Melbourne's city centre, in the city's outer north. The area was semi-rural until recent decades and takes its name from Greenvale, a farm owned by early settler John McKerchar in the parish of Yuroke. Granite quarries operated in the area from the 1850s, and a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients was established in the early 1900s. The suburb now mixes established farmland with newer housing estates.
