About Westmeadows

Westmeadows is a mainly residential suburb about 16 km north-west of Melbourne in the City of Hume, on either side of Mickleham Road. It contains the original Broadmeadows village, laid out in 1850 beside the Moonee Ponds Creek on the route of the then Sydney Road, which prospered as a stopping place for goldfields traffic before declining after the railway passed it by in the 1870s. Historic survivors include the bluestone bridge over the creek, built in 1869, and the old shire offices, now part of the Westmeadows Tavern precinct.
