About Coolaroo
Coolaroo is a suburb about 18 km north of Melbourne's central business district, in the City of Hume. The name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning brown snake. The land was acquired by the Housing Commission of Victoria in 1951 for new housing estates, with construction beginning in 1966, and the suburb grew around these developments and the Craigieburn railway line.
