About Kooyong
Kooyong is a residential suburb in Melbourne, about 7 km south-east of the central business district, in the City of Stonnington, in the Gardiners Creek valley between Toorak and Malvern. The name comes from Kooyong Koot, the Aboriginal name for Gardiners Creek, thought to mean camp or resting place. The suburb is best known as the namesake of the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, where the Australian championships were played from 1927, and retains substantial, often architect-designed houses from its subdivision between 1900 and the 1930s.
