About Armadale (Vic.)
Armadale is an inner suburb of Melbourne, about 7 km south-east of the central business district, between Prahran and Malvern, on the land of the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung people. It was formerly known as East Prahran, and grew rapidly after the railway arrived in 1879, with a commercial centre developing around the station. The suburb takes its name from Armadale House, built for James Munro, a later Premier of Victoria, who named it after the Scottish village where he went to school. High Street is known for its restaurants and antique shops.
