About Aspendale Gardens

Aspendale Gardens is a residential suburb 26 km south-east of Melbourne's centre, immediately east of the bayside suburb of Aspendale. Built largely during the 1990s on former market-garden land within the drained Carrum Swamp, it takes its name from Aspendale, which was in turn named after Aspen, the champion racehorse that gave its name to the Aspendale racecourse opened in 1891. The Edithvale wetlands lie at its southern edge.
