About Sandy Creek (Vic.)
Sandy Creek is a sparsely settled rural locality in the Indigo Shire of north-east Victoria, in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. The locality covers undulating hill country and valley land drained by Sandy Creek, a tributary flowing northward into Lake Hume. Gold was discovered here in 1854 and mining continued until 1918, and the area retains a landmark Catholic church on a hill overlooking the creek amid rolling pastoral country and pockets of native bushland.
