About Gundowring
Gundowring is a rural locality in the Kiewa Valley of north-east Victoria, in the Shire of Indigo, along the middle reaches of the Kiewa River a few kilometres east of Dederang. The Gundowring pastoral run was taken up in 1838, and the name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word describing a place with water and suitable for camping. Farming families settled the valley in the 1860s, and Gundowring Homestead, built about 1860 and listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, survives as one of the district's earliest buildings.
