About Woodvale (Vic.)

Woodvale is a rural locality about 10 kilometres north of Bendigo in the City of Greater Bendigo, Victoria. Situated on the traditional country of the Dja Dja Wurrung people, who called the area Nerring, the locality developed during the 1850s gold rush and was originally known as Sydney Flat before being renamed Woodvale in the 1920s to avoid confusion with a New South Wales town. The area features gold rush heritage including former mine sites and is near the Whipstick State Forest.
