About Strathfieldsaye

Strathfieldsaye is a suburb of Bendigo in Victoria, about 9 kilometres south-east of the city centre on Sheepwash Creek. It was probably named after the English estate awarded to the Duke of Wellington in 1817, and it gave its name to the Shire of Strathfieldsaye, whose 1869 hall still stands in the town. Long a small rural centre, it grew into a residential suburb from the 1970s.
