About Junortoun
Junortoun is a semi-rural suburb of Bendigo, Victoria, about eight kilometres east of Bendigo along the McIvor Highway. Originally home to the Dja Dja Wurrung people, it was known as Homebush after a local estate before being renamed Junortoun in 1912 to avoid confusion with Homebush, New South Wales, taking the name from Mary Junor, wife of estate owner Samuel Lazarus. Surrounded by the Bendigo Regional Park, Wellsford State Forest and Greater Bendigo National Park, Junortoun features the O'Keefe Rail Trail, Catherine McAuley College, a CFA station, an army base, and harness and greyhound racing facilities.
