About Golden Square
Golden Square is a historic inner suburb of Bendigo, about 3 km southwest of the CBD, dating to the 1850s gold rush when early diggers identified a rich section of gold-bearing ground west of Bendigo Creek. The suburb retains heritage miners' cottages and Victorian-era streetscapes, with a working high street featuring strip shopping, cafés and pubs. Significant mine sites including the New Chum Railway and Eureka Extended Mines are nearby, with mullock heaps still visible in local parks.
