About Golden Point (Mount Alexander - Vic.)

Golden Point is a small historic locality in the Shire of Mount Alexander in central Victoria, near the town of Castlemaine. Rich alluvial gold was discovered there on Forest Creek in October 1851, one of the earliest finds of the Mount Alexander goldfields, among the richest alluvial fields of the Victorian gold rush. Today the locality is quiet rural country on the edge of the former diggings, with remnants of the gold-rush landscape.
