About Chewton Bushlands
Chewton Bushlands is a locality in the Shire of Mount Alexander in central Victoria, near Castlemaine. In 1974 a former grazing property of about 300 acres was subdivided into roughly 40 bush blocks of five to ten acres, and the area developed into a community of mostly off-grid residents living in self-built homes. Today more than 35 households on separate lots occupy the 121-hectare subdivision, which has its own residents' association and a Community Fireguard network.
