About Bradford
Bradford is a rural locality in the Shire of Mount Alexander in central Victoria, on the goldfields of the Castlemaine district. Proclaimed a town in 1861, it grew during the Victorian gold rushes around alluvial and quartz mining. The name may honour the English city of Bradford or the geologist William Bradford, and the locality was long known as Pollard after its railway station, which remained open until 1969.
