About Maryborough (Vic.)
Maryborough is a town in Victoria, Australia, on the Pyrenees Highway, 58 kilometres north of Ballarat and 168 kilometres northwest of Melbourne, in the Shire of Central Goldfields. Founded during the 1854 gold rush, it grew into a major goldfields centre whose population reportedly peaked at up to 30,000, and it retains grand gold rush architecture.
