About Bowenvale

Bowenvale is a small rural locality in the Central Goldfields of Victoria, situated about 8 kilometres north-west of Maryborough near the junction of Bet Bet and Timor Creeks. The area was originally known as Chinaman's Flat, and the Duke and Timor Gold Mining Company operated one of the most successful deep lead mines in the Maryborough district from 1869 to 1896, producing 216,000 ounces of gold. The landscape consists of gently undulating gold-country with open paddocks and scattered eucalypt woodland.
