About Sprent
Sprent is a rural locality and town in the Central Coast area of north-west Tasmania, about 25 kilometres south-west of Devonport. It is named after James Sprent, a well-known Tasmanian surveyor. The railway line opened in 1886 between Ulverstone and Nietta passes through the locality, and the district later became known as the birthplace of the brothers Ian and Gary Stevenson. Sprent is bounded on the south-east by the Wilmot River and on the west by the East Gawler River.
