About Takura

Takura is a rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated approximately 18 kilometres south-west of Hervey Bay and 30 kilometres north of Maryborough. The name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning porcupine, likely from the Kabi Kabi language. The Takura Environmental Reserve, acquired by the Fraser Coast Regional Council in 2020, protects remnant rainforest with vine thickets, eucalypt woodlands and stands of kauri pine, and is home to the vulnerable black-breasted button-quail.
