About Rainbow Beach
Rainbow Beach is a coastal town in the Gympie Region of Queensland, about 200 kilometres north of Brisbane and 75 kilometres northeast of Gympie. It is the main gateway to K'gari, with a vehicle ferry running across the strait from nearby Inskip Point. The town takes its name from the rainbow-coloured sands of its dunes, and mineral sands including rutile, ilmenite, zircon and monazite were mined in the district from the 1960s until the mid-1970s.
