About Prawle
Prawle is a small rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, located about 16 kilometres northeast of Maryborough and 269 kilometres north of Brisbane. The locality is geographically distinctive as a riverine pocket entirely bounded by the Mary River on its southern, eastern, and western boundaries. Named after a farm established around 1861 by William Henry White after his birthplace in Prawle, Devon, England, the area is connected to the broader Maryborough heritage district, one of Queensland's earliest colonial settlements, and sits near the site of the Pettigrew and Sim sawmill and village established in 1863 at Dundathu.
