About Maryborough (Qld)
Maryborough is a historic river port on the Mary River, settled in 1847 and long a major entry point for immigrants to Queensland. It retains an extensive collection of 19th-century heritage buildings, including sandstone public structures and timber Queenslanders, and was the birthplace of author P.L. Travers. The city lies about 30 kilometres southwest of Hervey Bay, with which it forms the Fraser Coast urban area.
