About Kanigan
Kanigan is a rural locality split between the Fraser Coast Region and the Gympie Region of Queensland, on the Bruce Highway about 37 kilometres north of Gympie. Its name comes from the Aboriginal word 'Kanyn' used for a nearby creek and mountain. Mount Kanigan rises in the north-west of the locality, which is predominantly grazing country, and the Bureau of Meteorology's Gympie (Mount Kanigan) radar station is located there.
