About Shelly Beach (Townsville - Qld)

Shelly Beach is a coastal suburb of Townsville in north Queensland, about 11 km north-north-west of the city centre. It is named for the shell grit that was once collected along its shore. The suburb is largely undeveloped land within the Townsville Town Common Conservation Park. Its north-facing beach is a ridge of shelly sand fronted by wide tidal flats and backed by mangroves and the hills of the Many Peaks Range.
