About Ravenswood (Qld)
Ravenswood is a historic gold-mining town in the Charters Towers Region of north Queensland, about 130 kilometres south of Townsville. Gold was discovered in 1868, and by the early 1900s the town had grown to nearly 5,000 people with dozens of hotels. Mining declined after the 1912 strike and the First World War, and many historic buildings from the boom period remain. Gold mining has since resumed in the area.
