About Rasmussen

Rasmussen is a residential suburb of Townsville, Queensland, located approximately 14 kilometres south-west of the city centre. The flat terrain is bounded by the Ross River to the east and the Bohle River to the west. Named by Thuringowa Council in 1968, it honours Danish immigrants Jorgen and Bodild Rasmussen, who operated a dairy farm on the Ross River from 1871. The suburb developed during urbanisation of the Ross River corridor in the 1970s. Notable features include the Loam Island bushland reserve along the riverbank and Riverway Plaza shopping centre.
