About Giru
Giru is a town on the Haughton River in the Burdekin region of Queensland, in the state's sugarcane growing country. The name came from the railway station established here in 1916, which was named for a variety of sugarcane called goru. The Invicta Sugar Mill, relocated to the town in 1919 and today one of Queensland's largest mills, dominates the local economy.
