About Wyreema
Wyreema is a rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region of Queensland, located 25.4 kilometres southwest of the Toowoomba central business district on the Darling Downs. The town takes its name from the Wyreema railway station on the Southern railway line, with the origins of the name unclear but not Aboriginal. The Southern railway line opened through the area in 1869 and on 19 September 1887 the Beauaraba branch railway line branched from the new Beauaraba Junction station, which was renamed Wyreema in October 1893. Wyreema Provisional School opened on 21 February 1895, becoming Wyreema State School in 1904. In 1915 the Drayton Deviation reduced the rail distance from Toowoomba to Wyreema by 15 kilometres.
