About Westbrook (Qld)
Westbrook is a rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, situated approximately six kilometres south-west of Toowoomba on the Darling Downs. The area takes its name from the Westbrook pastoral run, established by John "Tinker" Campbell in 1841, who is believed to have named it after his birthplace in Portland, Maine, United States. The heritage-listed Westbrook Homestead, constructed from locally quarried bluestone between 1864 and 1867, stands as a significant reminder of the district's early pastoral history. The locality sits on fertile black-soil plains at an elevation of approximately 510 metres, with the Gore Highway passing through the town. Westbrook is recognised as one of the earliest European settlement sites on the Darling Downs.
