About Wellcamp
Wellcamp is a rural locality about 17 kilometres west of Toowoomba, site of the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport which opened in November 2014 as Australia's first privately funded major airport. Built by the Wagner family on a former quarry, the airport has a 2,870-metre runway capable of handling Boeing 747s and houses the Qantas Pilot Training Academy opened in 2019. The name dates from a workers' camp beside a well during railway construction in the 1860s.
