About Toowoomba City

Toowoomba City is the central locality and business district of Toowoomba, the second-most-populous inland city in Australia after Canberra, situated on the edge of the Great Dividing Range. The settlement grew from a swampy campsite called The Swamps, first occupied in 1849, and the name Toowoomba is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word of debated meaning, possibly the native melon that grew in the area. Toowoomba is known as the Garden City for its many parks and gardens, including Queens Park and the State Rose Garden, and hosts the Carnival of Flowers each September.
