About Harlaxton
Harlaxton is a suburb of Toowoomba in Queensland, about 4 km north of the city centre, on the escarpment of the Great Dividing Range. It is named after Harlaxton House, built for explorer Francis Gregory in the 1870s and later the summer residence of Queensland Governor Lord Lamington, who is said to have given his name to the Lamington cake first created there. The locality was originally known as Irishtown.
