About Diddillibah
Diddillibah is a semi-rural locality in the Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland, located 7.4 kilometres west of Maroochydore. The name derives from Aboriginal words dhilla meaning coarse grass or carpet snake and ba meaning place, also known as valley of the snakes. A provisional school opened in 1885 built by locals led by Richard Heddon, becoming a State School in 1909 and closing in 1962. The Diddillibah Community Hall, opened in 1938, is the repurposed original 1885 school building moved 100 metres west and extended by volunteers. A Methodist Church opened around 1901 and was relocated to Coolum Beach in 1968. The locality has multiple bushland conservation reserves including Schottiana Rainforest Park and the Barry Murridge Memorial Garden.
