About East Mackay
East Mackay is a coastal suburb of the Mackay Region in Queensland, located about 1.9 kilometres southeast of the Mackay CBD. Bounded by the Pioneer River and the Coral Sea, the suburb occupies flat, low-lying land on the traditional territory of the Yuwibara people. Town Beach runs along the foreshore and Queens Park, opened in 1881, is a key recreational area. The East Mackay Reclamation Scheme of the 1960s and 1970s shaped the modern suburb. Notable features include the Sandfly Creek Environmental Reserve and the Bluewater Trail.
