Buccan

About Buccan

Buccan is a semi-rural locality in the City of Logan, Queensland, located 37.5 kilometres south-southeast of the Brisbane central business district. Early European settlers James Williamson and his brother-in-law Mr Fraser selected land south of Bethania around 1863 and attempted cotton growing but had problems with bollworm, though sugar cane was successfully cultivated with one of the largest plantations in the area on what is now Newstead Park beside the Logan River. Buccan railway station was on the disused Beaudesert railway line which operated from 1885 to 1996. The suburb is home to the Buccan Conservation Park managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.
