About Swanbank
Swanbank is an industrial locality in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, about 10 kilometres south-east of the Ipswich central business district. It is best known for the Swanbank Power Station, first commissioned in the 1960s as a coal-fired plant, with the gas-fired Swanbank E plant now the main generator on the site and the broader area being redeveloped as a clean energy hub. The locality also contains former coal mines and areas of grazing on native vegetation, and was named by landholder James Foote after his wife's birthplace in Scotland.
