About Kalbar

Kalbar is a rural town and locality in the Fassifern Valley of the Scenic Rim in south-east Queensland, about 82 km south-west of Brisbane and directly north of Mount French. Originally known as Fassifern Scrub and then Engelsburg, it was settled almost exclusively by German settlers, and its streets still reflect that Anglo-German heritage. In 1916, amid anti-German sentiment during World War I, the town was renamed Kalbar. Landmarks include the heritage-listed Fassifern Homestead and School of Arts and Memorial Hall, and the town holds the annual Kalbar Country Day festival.
