About Varsity Lakes

Varsity Lakes is a planned residential suburb on the Gold Coast in Queensland, created in 2002 from the former suburbs of Stephens and Andrews and part of Robina. The area was originally swampy hinterland drained for dairying from the 1870s by Brisbane mayor Thomas Blacket Stephens, after whom the earlier suburb was named. The suburb surrounds man-made lakes and adjoins Bond University, Australia's first private university, which opened on Lake Orr in 1989.
