About Tallai

Tallai is a semi-rural suburb in the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland, Australia, located approximately 17.5 kilometres south-west of Surfers Paradise. Situated on rolling hills adjacent to Mudgeeraba and Worongary, the area was traditionally inhabited by the Yugambeh people. European settlers arrived in the late nineteenth century, drawn by timber resources and agricultural potential, with dairy and cattle farming forming the foundation of the local economy and three sawmills operating in the early 1900s. The suburb's name is believed to derive from an Aboriginal word, though its exact meaning is uncertain, and it was also the name of the estate of Sir William Wellington Cairns, a former Governor of Queensland. Tallai transitioned from farmland to a residential area from the mid-twentieth century onward, and today is characterised by its spacious acreage properties and lush hinterland scenery.
