About Surat
Surat is a small rural town on the Balonne River in the Maranoa Region of south-west Queensland, about 75 kilometres south-south-east of Roma on the Carnarvon Highway. Established in 1849, the town grew as a Cobb and Co changing station, and the heritage-listed complex now operates as a tourist attraction with a library, museum and aquarium. The former Warroo Shire Hall and Astor Theatre are also heritage-listed.
