About Bell (Qld)
Bell is a rural town and locality in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, in the western foothills of the Bunya Mountains about 39 kilometres north of Dalby. It lies on the Bunya Highway between the agricultural areas of the Darling Downs and the South Burnett. The area, originally known as Cattle Creek and part of Jimbour Station, was opened for closer settlement in the early 1870s. The town is named after Sir Joshua Peter Bell, then owner of Jimbour Station. A branch railway opened in 1906 and operated until 1994, and the town is known for its country arts and crafts, agricultural show, rodeo and horse races.
