About Port Alma
Port Alma is a coastal town, port and locality at the southern end of the Fitzroy River delta in Central Queensland, about 60 km from Rockhampton, of which it is the deepwater outport. A wharf was built in 1884, a railway link from Bajool opened in 1912, and early cargoes included grain, cattle, sheep, gold, copper and tallow. Now known as the Port of Rockhampton, it handles ammonium nitrate, tallow, explosives and live cattle exports, while the locality itself has no resident population.
