About Marmor
Marmor is a sparsely settled rural town in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, about 44 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton on the Bruce Highway. The name is the Latin word for marble, reflecting the limestone found in the district, and the Marmor Limestone Mine has operated since the early 1900s when it supplied lime to the Mount Morgan gold mine. The North Coast railway line also passes through the locality, which is bounded by the salt lakes of Port Alma to the north.
